Getting started

The bottom tabs are:

The five main areas on iPhone and iPad

The bottom tabs are:

  • Today — upcoming occasions, planning cues, reminders, budgets and things worth remembering.
  • People — the people you give gifts to and the memory accumulated around them.
  • Journal — searchable/filterable Ideas, Hints and gift history.
  • Wishlist — your own private wishlist.
  • Settings — appearance, regional settings, reminders, iCloud, data protection, export and support.

A + Create menu is available from the main interface for fast actions such as Quick capture and New occasion.

Add your first Person from Contacts

  1. Open People.
  2. Tap the add control.
  3. Choose Import from Contacts.
  4. If iOS asks for Contacts permission, choose the level of access you are comfortable granting.
  5. Select one or more contacts.
  6. Tap Add.
  7. Review the imported Person in The Gift Journal. Contact information remains a source for the Person; The Gift Journal keeps its own journal record.

Add a Person manually

  1. Open People.
  2. Tap the add control.
  3. Choose Add manually.
  4. Enter the Person’s name.
  5. Optionally add a birthday and notes.
  6. Tap Add.

Save your first thought

  1. Open the + Create menu.
  2. Choose Quick capture.
  3. Choose the Person.
  4. Choose whether you are recording a Gift idea or a Hint.
  5. Type or dictate the thought.
  6. Optionally add a note, photo or date.
  7. Tap Save.

You do not need to fill in every possible detail. The product is designed so one useful thought is enough to save now and enrich later.

Load the sample journal

A sample journal may be available in Settings → Data in development/demo builds. It is designed to demonstrate realistic People, Ideas, Hints, Occasions and history without using your personal data.

Do not load sample data into a journal you intend to treat as your real long-term journal unless you are happy for those demonstration records to be mixed with your own.
